Pres spox: Meta overplays with rules, unlikely to return to Russia

MOSCOW, Mar 14 (PRIME) -- The U.S.’ Meta Platforms, owner of social networks Facebook and Instagram, has been carried away with the rules and manipulations, which makes its work in Russia in the future quite unlikely, the president’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

“Although the company is trying somehow to distance itself from the earlier made rather nasty mistakes, to distance itself from these mistakes, but it admits indirectly that the decisions are meant when such and such methods are tolerated in Ukraine, but not somewhere else. It means that the company is slightly carried away with the rules and manipulation,” Peskov said.

It makes “the work of such companies on the territory of the country most unlikely,” he added.

Meta earlier lifted the ban in Facebook and Instagram from calls to violence against the Russian military. The company then explained that it was done only on the territory of Ukraine. In response to the behavior, Russia blocked Facebook and Instagram.
